The Nero d'Avola DOC Sicilia from the southern heart of Sicily offers a vivid expression of the region’s terroir. Grown at 400 meters above sea level in the Butera area, the vineyards thrive in medium-textured, clay-rich soils, with vines averaging 25 years in age. After a selective harvest of slightly dried clusters, the grapes undergo fermentation at temperatures between 23-28°C, followed by a maturation period in oak and further aging in the bottle. The result is a deeply concentrated ruby red wine with a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, prune compote, and intriguing notes of spice and toasted wood. On the palate, it is powerful yet elegant, with smooth, dense tannins and a harmonious, savory finish. The wine’s long-lasting persistence makes it the perfect pairing for rich meats, such as a roasted lamb loin drizzled with Nocellara olive oil, freshly ground black pepper, and Marsala sea salt.
